Some time ago my father conducted some research into our family tree. As as result the family crest was created.
The 3 green hills are the hills of my father’s town of birth, the city of “Grünberg” in the old Eastern part of Germany before WWII.
The blue river is the river “Oder” running along Grünberg. The “Oder” is now the border to Poland.
The brown below the blue river represents the fields of agriculture.
The winged wheel is the symbol of the unions of “engine drivers”. My Grand Father was a steam engine driver. My Great Grand Father was a commercial skipper on the river “Oder”. And my father worked in the aerospace industry. So the winged wheel also symbolises their professions.
The remaining illustrations around and outside the actual shield are to complement the design. The “V-shaped” feathers on top of the helmet represents a “V” because our family surname “Feilke” was spelled many generations ago “Veilke” as the pronunciation of “F” and “V” in German is the same.
